Lights, camera...

The filmed interviews at MMU (Cheshire) were a great success the other week, so many thanks to all at the university who helped out, the Love Music Trust, Glyn Williams Musical Instruments, RedShift Radio and The Saxon newspaper for their support.

Interviews with musicians from various brass bands took place, many with direct links to Foden's, plus some great snippets came from people who have been associated with the brass scene across the last few decades. The material gathered is currently being edited with a view to releasing a video clip to give a wider audience a flavour of the project.

Interviews... on film!

The first full draft of the Brass In The Blood script has been reviewed, amended, improved and fine-tuned. We have been lucky enough to have one of the brass world’s top researchers on hand who picked through details and made recommendations. There is still much to do, with work on the film dialogue to be further improved across a series of workshops – perhaps March and April.

Ahead of that, we are now in a position to progress the first phase of interviews – on camera – with people associated with all aspects of the brass world – musicians, composers, librarians, historians, conductors and journalists. This will take place on Sunday 17th February. The footage recorded will allow further research for use with the script, character details to be used, and also as supplementary archive material to be added to the end of the final DVD. Initially, from the interviews, we will be producing a three/four-minute video clip to give everyone a feel for the Brass In The Blood project. This will be posted online in early March.

Beyond mid-March, we will be in a position to take enquiries about getting involved in the various aspects of the film’s production.

A unique Brass film score

The key reason that the Brass In The Blood film project arose was down to composer Adam Shilton's desire to score exclusively for Brass. He has already achieved success with Through The Pink Mist (reported HERE on the 4BarsRest website), but the challenge to score for a 90-minute movie was too much to resist.

Brass In The Blood film

Brass In The Blood is a movie set in Elworth, Cheshire, currently in pre-production and due for release in mid-2015.

The project came about when Adam Shilton challenged Jules Hornbrook to write a film script telling the story of a world famous Brass Band. Jules had written a few local (Cheshire) books but knew little about Brass, while Adam knew little of writing but was midway through a Music PhD and had already composed a published Brass piece.

Brass In The Blood will be a feel-good movie, filmed in and around Cheshire, using local people and organisations, introducing many new people to the wonderful, passionate world of Brass and do the amazing Brass Band scene full justice. Oh, and narrator Harry Stone... will he get the girl?

Get involved

The Brass In The Blood production team WILL need actors, extras, technicians, runners, sound/lighting engineers and general assistants. For now, the bulk of the "Brass" soundtrack will come from an existing top UK Brass Band but we will keep this site updated as and when further opportunities arise, especially people to represent musicians from other eras.

From day one we have hoped to involve as many Cheshire-based people and organisations as possible, utilising the vast resources and talent on offer at local universities, colleges and schools. All of these organisations will be approached during early 2013, plus details of a presentation outlining the project aims, targets, dates etc will be held some time in March 2013 at a venue to be announced.
